Easy Screen OCR
Price: $
We often need to extract text from images or scanned PDF files where you can't simply select the text and copy it to Clipboard easily. Having to type out everything is definitely not an option today as there are many apps that offer OCR (Optical Character Recognition). Let's check out a prime example!
Easy Screen OCR is a Windows app for image-to-text conversions. It's available for a free trial of 20 uses and, after that, you will have to subscribe to a plan. After you open it, you only get a notification and the app's icon is available in the system tray. This can be quite confusing for first-time users.
Simply right-click the icon and you can choose to capture an area from the screen or to add an image to extract the text from. The program is very simple to use and it can definitely save you some time. Its text recognition is also off the charts! We have tried out various images and scanned documents in all sorts of languages and the results were amazing. Choosing the proper language enables you to scan characters unique to the chosen language. You can also immediately translate the scanned language to your preferred language easily!
There are currently two OCR methods implemented. One of them is powered by Google and it offers many more languages. The second one doesn't depend on Google so there are fewer languages to choose from. It also doesn't depend on Google's JSON files, which would require you to create a Google Cloud account (when purchasing a life-time license).
After your free trial ends, you can pay a life-time fee of $15 to use all features but you'll need to provide your own Google JSON file. The file can be downloaded for free after registering on Google Cloud and you will be able to use it for free for a long time. Half-yearly and yearly subscriptions for Easy Screen OCR relieve you of having to provide the file but they are significantly more expensive. Either way, Easy Screen OCR is a great tool and it can be worth the price if you need to use its features quite often.
